Meet Your Practitioner

Valerie Abrigo Rivera began her work in the helping professions in 2009 and is now a bilingual Licensed Mental Health Counselor (se habla español). She earned her MA in Counseling Psychology with a Specialization in Latino Mental Health and has worked in both the community mental health and public health sectors.

Valerie has completed certifications in Yoga, Reiki & Sound Healing, with specialized training in Yin Yoga & the yoga4cancer methodology.

Valerie believes in the value of slowing down to prioritize self-care in sustainable ways and normalizing judgement-free conversations about mental health & wellbeing in all communities. She supports individuals learning to manage the effects of strong emotions, chronic stress and burnout, impacting both daily functioning & interpersonal relationships.

As a mother of 2 multicultural kiddos who keep her on her toes outside of the micro studio, Valerie understands the complexities of juggling priorities both at home and at work.

A woman receives a sound healing or relaxation therapy session outdoors on grass, lying on a yoga mat with candles and singing bowls nearby, as another woman performs the therapy.

Working with Valerie

Valerie provides trauma-informed care & nurturing to high-functioning, multi-stressed professionals who have become disconnected from themselves and are navigating their days on autopilot. When clients invest in themselves, they actively address years of chronic stress, burnout & fatigue, and increase their mindful awareness to be more fully present across life domains. They reclaim their capacity for self-regulation, reduce reactivity to strong emotions, and increase self-awareness and empowerment through mind-body interventions. These practices yield improved quality of life & comprise a self-care plan that is flexible enough to keep up with life’s ever-changing demands.

Valerie invites you to unlock your authentic self in order to explore sustainable lifestyle changes to improve your overall health & wellbeing. She will help you embrace the strategies, skills & tools you already possess to experience the quality of life you deserve.

Expanding Community Access

I am the daughter of an immigrant-turned-citizen who came to the United States seeking a better life. The privilege and pressure of being someone’s “American Dream” are profound. I remember the stares in the grocery store as a child when strangers would look back and forth between my parents and me, trying to figure out “What is she?” To this day I do not respond correctly when asked, “¿De dónde eres?” I recognize the value of being able to communicate in a language and culture I was not born into.

As a bilingual, multicultural mother raising multi-ethnic children in a city as diverse as Boston, I aspire to enrich the place we call home. Our communities and neighbors need to be uplifted and supported now and always, regardless of their country of origin, faith, primary language or any other component of their identity.

In addition to premium service options listed here, I am a Clinician On A Mission to help expand access to community-based yoga, meditation and mindful movement programming within the City of Boston and surrounding communities in English and Spanish through strategic partnerships & collaborations. Let’s come together to discover new ways to heal and build resiliency amongst our neighborhoods!
